Why are more people adding home security products?

Many folks have turned to security cameras as a way to monitor their home when they are away, whether it's only for the workday or for a week long vacation. It gives peace of mind for folks to be able to check in and see that their residence and surrounding area look exactly as they should, delivering real-time updates and information. From miles away, you can see exactly what's happening in and around your home — giving you relief from stress and anxiety. Door alarms, contact sensors, and motion detectors, along with cameras, add an extra layer of protection to your home, both when you are there and when you're not. Visible cameras can actually discourage potential intruders from targeting your home, especially because they can provide video evidence to later help law enforcement. Door alarms and motion detectors act as a second layer of defense should your home alarm system not be properly working. Any movement or opening of doors when these accessories are armed can immediately alert you to danger or possible intruder. Not only that, but many insurance providers offer discounts to homeowners who equip their property with these extra monitors, saving you money in the long run. From our perspective, it's a purchase that pays for itself, both monetarily and emotionally.

Why do shoppers love this deal?

This set is available in a few variations, but it's the one-camera option that's marked down to just $28 right now. The other two-camera, three-camera, and five-camera sets are also on sale, but this is the one available for the lowest price.

The bundle includes a Blink battery doorbell, a Blink outdoor 4 camera and a sync module core, along with batteries, installation and mounting kits for both devices, wire extenders, a power cord and USB+C cable, a doorbell removal tool and a wall plate for the doorbell. Both designed for outdoor placement, the doorbell and camera are both positioned in different ways. While the doorbell should be within reach along your entryway, the camera can be placed by the corners of your home, above entry points, and front or back property edges. Both weather-resistant and built to withstand rain, dust, and temperatures ranging between -4 degrees Fahrenheit and 113 degrees Fahrenheit, you don't need to worry about installing them under cover. They can handle anything Mother Nature throws at them. They both communicate with and through the sync module core, which acts as a "central hub" to connect the two devices to each other. You can connect up to 10 Blink devices to a single system.

Details

The wireless, battery-powered camera records 1080 resolution HD video at 30 frames per second (FPS) when motion or sound is detected. It uses motion detection to capture activity and send you alerts via the Blink app that you need to download on your phone upon installation. You can cover up to 143 degrees with its diagonal field of view, and monitor doors, windows, or gates, as well as your driveway, patio, or yard to see who is coming and going. It has night vision for 24/7 monitoring, two-way audio that lets you speak to people near the camera, and can deliver live video via your phone or an Alexa device.

The video doorbell has a camera as well along with a doorbell button for guests to press to alert you of their presence. Using 2K video, you can see and speak to visitors at your door before you go to answer it. You can get alerts about packages left in front of your home and use two-way audio to talk to visitors or guests through the app. It also has night vision for monitoring when it is dark out. The doorbell can connect to your existing doorbell wiring to ring inside your home. It will also alert you via the app when someone rings it.

Because both devices are wireless, they require no wiring or difficult installation to set up. They are powered by the included lithium batteries that come with your purchase. There's only a little bit of extra work when you want to connect the video doorbell to your existing home doorbell, but even then it's fairly manageable. You don't need to charge the video doorbell and camera. They typically can last up to two years, and then you will simply need to replace the batteries to continue use. The sync module core is not wireless. It plugs into an AC power outlet.

What to expect from a $28 security camera and doorbell: Pros and cons

Pros

  • 24/7 monitoring: Thanks to special night vision technology, both the security camera and video doorbell camera can monitor 24/7 even when it's dark out.
  • No charge battery power: The included lithium batteries can last up to two years and don't require charging.
  • Versatile in use: The sync module core can have 10 different Blink devices paired to it.

Cons

  • Small bundle: With only one camera and video doorbell, some folks with larger homes find it limiting and typically require the two or three camera sets.
  • Installation required: The set up process can take some time, since both the doorbell and camera need to be mounted with the included hardware and the app needs to be set up on your phone or Alexa.
