Overview

An often overlooked travel destination that sits at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, the South Caucasus nation of Armenia has over the last few years been welcoming record numbers of tourists as more Westerners catch on to everything from its ancient churches set against a rugged landscape to the vibrant modern capital of Yerevan.

The 825,384 international tourists who visited Armenia between January and May of 2026 represent, according to official data released by the country's Ministry of Economy, a jump of nearly 20% from the previous year.

While some dedicated travelers and members of the Armenian diaspora in cities such as Los Angeles have for decades been coming to the country through connections in Frankfurt and Paris, there are currently no direct flights to Armenia from the United States, given the distance and current market demand.

Wizz Air will launch 2 new routes to Armenia

But for those already in Europe, some local airlines are responding to growing Armenia travel demand with new routes.

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air just announced two new routes to Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) in Yerevan from London and the Greek island of Rhodes.

The flight to London Luton Airport (LTN) launched on June 8 and marks the first direct connection to Armenia from the United Kingdom to Armenia. The flights will run year-round twice a week on Mondays and Fridays on an Airbus A320neo.

"At Wizz Air, we're committed to making travel more accessible and helping our customers explore beyond the obvious," Yvonne Moynihan, managing director for Wizz Air UK, said in a statement. "Yerevan is a city rich in history, culture and character, offering an incredible experience for travelers looking for something different, all at an affordable price."

The routes are also meant to serve Armenians looking to fly to different European destinations. Zvartnots International had previously offered limited connectivity to many European capitals, but that situation is rapidly changing.

The other route to Rhodes Airport (RHD) in Greece will also operate twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

Both new routes are part of the airline's major push to expand to Yerevan. In May 2026, travelers who participated in Wizz Air's annual Let's Get Lost campaign discovered that the mystery flight they agreed to board as part of the contest landed in Yerevan.

"The response to our Let's Get Lost campaign showed there is real appetite among travellers to step outside their comfort zones and discover destinations they may never have previously considered," Moynihan said further.

As part of establishing a base in the city in October 2025, Wizz Air last year also launched routes to the Armenian capital from Prague, Hamburg, Paphos, Paris, Naples, Bari, Bucharest, and Memmingen in Germany.

As part of Wizz Air's promotional period for the new routes, the flights to Yerevan from London and Rhodes will start at £45.99 (roughly $62 USD) in one direction throughout the summer period.
